The RPM motoring show, broadcast weekly on SuperSport has every reason to celebrate: this week marks the broadcast of the show’s 100th episode.
Scripted and presented by Spike Ballantine and Deon Schoeman, and produced and directed by Jan Sime, RPM has established itself as one of South Africa’s most credible and popular motoring shows since being launched in May 1987.
This week, the RPM team track-tests one of South-Africa’s hottest hatches at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit: the lightning-fast Mazda3 MPS. But can the front-wheel drive Mazda cope with all that muscle?
On a slightly different tack, we test-drive the cleverly packaged, and unexpectedly lively, Kia Soul 1.6 – a mini-MPV with attitude. But how much soul does this Korean really have?
Finally, we travel all the way to the beautiful town of Knysna, on the Garden Route, to report on the inaugural Knysna Hill Climb – a 1,8 km blast up Simola Hill, on the outskirts of Knysna.
The event attracted some 70 entries – from rare Lagondas to modern-day Ferraris and Porsches, from classic MGs and Marcos’ to an Audi R8 supercar and Nissan’s giant-killing GT-R. And yes, racing legend Sarel van der Merwe was there, too!
RPM’s premiere episode this week is broadcast on Wednesday night at 20h30 on SuperSport 2 and CSN. It repeats on Thursday morning at 07h30 on MNET and SS2. There are several other repeats if you miss the first few transmissions. Additional, late-schedule repeats can also be expected
