Summer has arrived (well, in most parts of SA – Cape Town is lagging a bit ...), and to celebrate the sunny skies, RPM this week features the perfect car for sultry summer weather driving: the Mini Cooper S Convertible. Much more handsome than its predecessor, with a roof that’s better integrated into the overall shape, the latest wind-in-the-hair Mini will put a smile on your face.
If you’ve ever dreamt of driving a Bentley Continental GT, but have found the R3-million-plus price tag a little hard to digest, the good news is that you can get a nearly-new version for around half the price. The Bentley Like New programme brings the famous British marque within reach of a broader (is still well-heeled) audience.
And finally, we travel to the high-tech, high-security test track of Continental Tyre, tucked away in the forests near Hannover, for an inside look at the way modern tyres are tested – including a ride on the 200 km/h-plus high-speed oval. And you thought those tyres were just rubber? Think again.
RPM’s premiere episode this week is broadcast on Wednesday night at 20h30 on SuperSport 2 and CSN. It repeats on Thursday morning at 07h30 on MNET and SS2. There are several other repeats if you miss the first few transmissions. Additional, late-schedule repeats can also be expected.
