Does Audi’s A5 Sportback change the rules?

Date: Monday, February 22, 2010

This week on RPM TV, we drive the new Audi A5 Sportback – a car that attempts to break the motoring mould by combining the virtues of a luxury saloon, a sleek coupé and practical estate in a single package. But how convincing is the result?

Another four-door seeking to steer clear of motoring convention is the Volkswagen CC - a Passat-based machine that looks like a sleek coupé, but offers the luxury and the four-door access of an upmarket sedan. We try out the flagship V6 3.6 4Motion version.

Rather more compact, but visually appealing, is the Mazda3 Sport hatchback, test-driven this week in top-spec 2,5-litre guise. And we also report back on our long-term Audi Q7 3.0 TDI, and compare it to the latest, face-lifted version.

RPM TV premieres on Wednesday night at 20h30 on SuperSport 1. We’re also on the MNET main channel and on SuperSport at 07h20 on Thursday morning. There several repeats on the days that follow. You can find the latest transmission schedule on the RPM TV website at http://www.rpmtv.co.za.
